I thought maybe Syracuse football was losing steam for 2026 four-star prospect James Johnson, the nation's No. 1 defensive lineman, according to On3, and now it's official. The Orange is out. Per On3 national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett, the 6-foot-4, 280-pound Johnson will make his college decision known on June 28 and has a final four of Florida, Georgia, Miami and Texas.

Eric Devendorf is back with Boeheim's Army, and I'm loving it like nobody's business. Hall of Fame writer Donna Ditota of Syracuse.com reported on Thursday that Devendorf, a former star guard at Syracuse basketball, will serve as an assistant coach this summer for Boeheim's Army as the team eyes a deep run in the 2025 The Basketball Tournament ("TBT"), the $1 million, winner-take-all annual event. Syracuse basketball will get an official visit from Deron Rippey Jr., the 2026 New York City product who has seen his recruitment explode. His dad, all-around great guy Deron Rippey Sr., confirmed to me via text message on Wednesday that his son will take an official visit to the Orange at some point, although nothing has been finalized at this time. The 6-foot-2 Deron Rippey Jr. is a five-star point guard and a top-20 national prospect in the 2026 cycle.

July 1 is a week away, and we've yet to hear anything publicly from SU Athletics regarding this supposed streamlining of third-party name, image and likeness ("NIL") entities supporting Syracuse Orange players. I want to note that in June, I've sent multiple e-mails to an SU Athletics spokesperson. My messages, unfortunately, weren't returned.
