It features an adult album alternative (AAA) format, along with a variety of other programming. WXPN is known for producing the World Cafe, a music show that is distributed by NPR to numerous non-commercial stations across the U.S. The station's call sign, commonly referred to as XPN, stands for "Experimental Pennsylvania Network." Its broadcast tower is situated at (40°02′19.7″N 75°14′12.8″W), within the antenna farm area in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia.
