    The Nipomo baseball team made sure its Ocean League baseball game at Santa Maria Tuesday would not go the scheduled distance. The Titans scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning, Jayden Lanier got the last out in relief of Nipomo starter Griffin Groshart, and the Titans won 16-2. The game was called after five innings because of the run rule. Lanier needed to face just one batter to get the last out after Groshart gave up just four hits in his 4.2 innings pitched. Nipomo racked up 17 hits.

    The St. Joseph baseball team maintained its two-game lead atop the Mountain League standings Wednesday. Ashton Bluem homered twice and drove in four runs, and Erik Furness hit a solo home run as the Knights routed Arroyo Grande 11-2 in a league game at Arroyo Grande. The game was scoreless after two innings. St. Joseph scored at least two runs in every inning after that. The Knights moved to 15-4, 7-1. The Eagles are 9-8, 4-4. Niko Peinado pitched a five-hit complete game for St. Joseph.

    The Santa Barbara Community Rowing's (SBCR) junior racing team delivered at the Southern California League Cal Cup in Long Beach Saturday. SBCR racers Diego Stephenson and Jacie Dingman both won gold medals at the SoCal Cup regatta Saturday. Stephenson, a Dunn School junior, won the Youth Men's Single race for his second win this season. Dingman is a Santa Ynez freshman. Dingman won the U17 Women's Single race by 35 seconds.

    The San Diego Padres beat the Oakland Athletics 2-1 in Oakland Wednesday and moved into first place in the National League West. The Padres out-hit the A's 12-2 but needed the only error of the game to help them tie the score. San Diego eventually scored the winning run in the fifth inning. Five Padres pitchers combined on a two-hitter. Padres starter Randy Vasquez pitched five innings to get the win. The Los Angeles Dodgers got back on track Wednesday with a 6-5 win at Washington.

    Taylor Mediano pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the St. Joseph softball team's 11-0 win at home over Mission Prep Wednesday. The St. Joseph senior was a base-on-balls away from pitching a perfect game. Mediano faced the minimum 15 batters in the game, which was called after the top of the fifth because of the run rule. Kaycie Gavlak had a hit and three RBIs Wednesday.
