School board censures one member and appoints another at explosive ORR meeting

In front of a crowd of nearly 100 people, tension exploded once again at the Oldham-Ramona-Rutland School District board meeting. The school board's regular meeting on April 14 in the Ramona gym saw the censure of board member Brooke Albertson, the appointment of Amber Malisch to fill a board vacancy, the designation of Rutland as the sole attendance center for the upcoming school year, the closure of the Spring Lake Colony High School and the loss of nine staff members.
Madison/Chester sweep Watertown in baseball home opener

The Madison/Chester varsity high school baseball team swept Watertown in their home opener on April 8, a doubleheader at Baughman Field. Madison/Chester won the first game 4-1, and the second 10-6. Game one was a scoreless pitching duel for the first four innings, with fireballer JD Prorok taking the mound for Madison/Chester. Prorok allowed only a single hit and a pair of walks in five innings of work while racking up seven strikeouts. Watertown's sole run was unearned due to Madison/Chester error.
Madison/Chester split doubleheader

The Madison/Chester varsity baseball team split a home doubleheader on April 10, losing to the Horace Hawks 6-5, while coming away victorious against the Grand Forks Central Knights 6-2. In the first game, Madison/Chester kept within one run of the Hawks despite trailing them in the hit column 9-3. Two of the team's hits were earned by the starting pitcher, Ben Brooks, who scored a run and provided a pair of singles. Madison/Chester's only other hit was a two-RBI single from Cohen Hahn. kAm~?

It wasn’t until just after 2 a.m. that the last of the senators had straggled into the chamber to cast their vote on the confirmation of retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine for chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

City welcomes construction season with open house

With the weather warming, construction season will soon begin in earnest. The City of Madison welcomed the season with an open house at City Hall on April 8. The evening served as an opportunity for interested residents to come and ask questions about ongoing and upcoming construction projects throughout Madison. It was led by Director of Engineering and Community Development Ryan Hegg, with Banner Associates' Weston Blasius also being in attendance.
Madison softballers bounce back against Beresford

After a tough loss in their home opener, the Madison Lady Bulldogs softball team bounced back for a convincing at-home win, 18-8, over the Beresford Watchdogs on April 10. Freshman Kelcie Dudley took the mound for the Bulldogs, going the distance for a complete game. Words rock. As an English major, I know that not everyone shares my love for language, but I can still never keep myself from nerding out over new words. Personally, some of my favorite words are blends, or as they’re known more formally, portmanteaus. Like many things in academia, this is a complicated word to describe something fairly simple. Portmanteaus are, at their core, words created by combining the sounds and meanings of other words.
Don’t take health care for granted
