A large water main break Monday on northbound Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda caused the closure of part of the road and left about 1,000 residents in a large multifamily apartment building without water as the region grapples with its first big winter storm of the new year, according to Montgomery County Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Earl Stoddard. Fox 5 DC posted a video of the water main break, which could be viewed from the station’s Wisconsin Avenue office.
MCPS closes school Tuesday due to heavy snowstorm

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) announced Monday afternoon that all schools and offices will be closed Tuesday after a snowstorm delivered up to 6 inches of snow to Montgomery County. All activities, field trips, and programs in schools and on school grounds, including childcare programs and community use activities, are also canceled, MCPS announced Monday.
Former Ritchie Park Elementary principal acquitted of assault assigned to new school

Andrew Winter, the former principal of Ritchie Park Elementary School in Rockville who was acquitted of assaulting a student in 2024, is set to serve as the assistant principal of Rock Creek Valley Elementary in Rockville, according to a Friday letter recently sent to Rock Creek Valley families. Winter, 54, will serve as the assistant principal until June 30, Rock Creek Valley Principal Jae Lee said in the letter. Winter was charged in June with second-degree assault in connection with a Feb.

Man found guilty of indecent exposure in Safeway, Ledo Pizza in Olney

A Rockville man was convicted of several counts of indecent exposure among other charges and sentenced Thursday to four and a half years in prison in connection with incidents at Ledo Pizza and Safeway in Olney in October and November, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office said Friday in a statement. Steven Randolph, 34, was found guilty in three separate bench trials before Montgomery County Circuit Judge Eric Nee, according to the statement.
Police investigate stabbing in Gaithersburg

Police were dispatched to Kentlands Boulevard and Commerce Square Place around 3:45 p.m. Friday afternoon for the report of a stabbing, according to police radio transmissions. Police were on the look out for two males wearing ski masks and all black clothing and a short while later located a teenage boy who dropped a knife when approached, according to radio transmissions.
