    Over the weekend, a community art project transformed the former Firestone Tire in Ballard. On Saturday, a group of artists and community members descended on the former mechanic shop for The Firestone: An Artist Takeover. Organizers and Seattle artists Aaron Asis and Brady Black, in partnership with the City of Seattle and the One Seattle Graffiti Team, hosted the Firestone project at 1145 NW Market Street.

    Ballard’s annual 17th of May celebration returns tomorrow, Saturday, May 17, marking 136 years of Norwegian Constitution Day festivities in the neighborhood. The day includes live music, community events, and the largest Syttende Mai parade outside of Norway. Activities begin at 11:00 a.m. across the neighborhood, including music at Bergen Place Park, an open house at the Leif Erikson Lodge, a luncheon at the National Nordic Museum (now sold out), and all-day specials at Skål Beer Hall.

    Crown Hill Pet Supply (9053 Holman Rd NW) is closing its doors after 33 years in the neighborhood. They announced the news on social media earlier this week, saying that Thursday, May 29 will be their last day open. “Since 1992, Crown Hill Pet Supply has been serving the local neighborhood to improve pets’ lives. Being part of the community for the past 33 years has been an honor and a privilege,” they wrote on social media.

    Kahlo & Loyal, the newest bar and restaurant to take over the corner spot at 17th Ave NW and NW 56th St, is opening this month. Chef and owner Sheldon Raju is opening Kahlo & Loyal at 5608 17th Ave NW—the former home of Little Prague Bakery, which closed in October 2024.
