Neues Deutschland

Neues Deutschland

Neues Deutschland (nd), which translates to New Germany in English, is a daily newspaper based in Berlin, Germany. For 43 years, it served as the official newspaper for the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED), the ruling party of East Germany, also known as the German Democratic Republic, which operated as a dictatorship. During its early years, the paper held a Stalinist viewpoint and maintained a Marxist-Leninist position until the reunification of Germany in 1990. By 1989, Neues Deutschland had a circulation of 1.1 million copies, making it a key platform for the communist party to communicate its viewpoints on various issues, including politics and economics. It was seen by other countries as the diplomatic voice of the communist regime.
