New Bern Sun Journal

The Sun Journal is a daily newspaper based in New Bern, North Carolina, USA. It started its journey in 1916 after the combination of two earlier publications, the Sun and the Journal, which merged in 1914. In 1923, the New Bernian newspaper took ownership. Then, in 1974, Freedom Communications, Inc. became the owner. Freedom held onto the paper until 2012, when it sold its newspapers in Florida and North Carolina to Halifax Media Group. In 2015, GateHouse Media acquired Halifax, and later that same year, New Media Investment Group took over Halifax.
