Baldree is the 2025 recipient of the 2025 Community Fabric Awards for Individual Leadership. Mothers start children's consignment store

Two mothers partnered to bring a children’s consignment store to New Bern, Repeat Petit, which launches Saturday with a pop-up gathering. Erin Vann, owner of Le Petit Bisou children’s boutique, partnered with Kathryn Jasper to help parents and caregivers sell old children’s clothes and buy new, pre-loved items. Weather permitting, people can shop Repeat Petit’s initial inventory Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the lawn of Le Petit Bisou and Sun Bern NC, at 1301 Country Club Road.

Peace Counseling Center on Trent Boulevard will kick off its new Garden 2 Table Program Saturday with a bake sale and yard sale. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center, at 1917 Trent Blvd. Peace Counseling Center is a mental health service that provides outpatient counseling, transcranial magnetic stimulation and medication management. The counseling center is also on a mission to fight against hunger in the community.
Trail to Tryon race rebrands with new holiday date

The Craven County Tourism Development Authority in New Bern unveiled a new name, date and a multiyear presenting sponsorship for their end-of-the-year running event. Formerly known as Trail to Tryon, the Trail to Tryon Holiday Half Marathon will now take place on Dec. 6 through downtown New Bern, offering a half marathon, 10K and 5K. Trail to Tryon debuted in November 2022 with more than 250 participants and doubled its size in two years.
Bottlenose dolphin found dead in Beaufort

A dead stranded offshore bottlenose dolphin was recently found in Beaufort with a large plastic bag inside its stomach. The dolphin was found on March 25 on the banks of Deep Creek in the Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve.
3 arrested in gang-related shootings

New Bern police, assisted by other law enforcement agencies, made three more arrests in the recent gang-related shootings that have occurred in the city. Since March 15, five shootings have taken place in the city, which New Bern Police Chief Patrick Gallagher confirmed are gang-related in a press conference on Friday morning. “Let me be clear, these acts of violence are gang-related and each victim was targeted, these were not random acts of violence,” he said.
