Once upon a time, as is well known, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan really coveted quarterback Mac Jones going into the 2021 NFL Draft. Of course it didn't go that way, or work out well, as Trey Lance was ultimately the pick at No. 3 overall.

The San Francisco 49ers turned their roster younger offseason, taking on plenty of dead money in the process. Several departed veterans have been replaced by draft picks, and other young players are lined up for bigger roles this season. The Niners have made a noteworthy addition as the calendar flipped to June, acquiring edge rusher Bryce Huff from the Philadelphia Eagles for a Day 3 pick in 2026.

The kicking game was a underappreciated reason for the San Francisco 49ers struggles last season, as kicker Jake Moody struggled with accuracy while punter Mitch Wishnowski missed eight games and was not particularly good when he was healthy. Greg Joseph has been added as expected competition for Moody, but as the next phase of OTAs gets rolling a presumably healthy (?) Wishnowski has faced no competition for punting duties.
