No other position experienced more offseason change for the San Francisco 49ers than the defensive line. Yet, somehow, reserve defensive lineman Jordan Elliott managed to survive the tumult. And it's pretty hard to understand why. Sure, the Niners got rid of older, more expensive talent. Names like Javon Hargrave, Leonard Floyd and Maliek Collins were all shown the door in the Niners' high-profile cost-saving moves.

In his first press conference following what's now the biggest contract ever dished out in San Francisco 49ers history, quarterback Brock Purdy told reporters his first big purchase was going to be a bass fishing boat. Provided his wife was on board, of course. Well, it turns out the now-$265 million signal-caller might not have followed his initial desires. At least according to recent comments from his favorite teammate (and soon-to-be neighbor), tight end George Kittle.

Quarterback Trey Lance is certainly hoping "a third time is a charm" when it comes to finding a long-term home, and the aim is to secure such under head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. The San Francisco 49ers' top pick from the 2021 NFL Draft, who ultimately flamed out amid injury and serious inconsistency, failed to revitalize his career after being jettisoned to the Dallas Cowboys in 2023, which led him to a free-agent deal this offseason with the Bolts. So far, so (not) good.

It's crazy to think (at least those of us on the older side) that 25 years have passed since the dawn of the 21st Century, yet here we are. And that's the context for ESPN's latest foray into NFL offseason content when there isn't exactly a lot of other news going on. Ah, yes. The All Quarter Century team. We won't see another one of these until 2050, which means ESPN probably does an All Half Century team instead. OK, fine.

One of the bigger shockers from the San Francisco 49ers' 2025 NFL Draft class is they only opted to grab one offensive lineman, guard Connor Colby, and that didn't take place until Round 7. Passing on an offensive tackle, particularly with an aging Trent Williams on the left side and pending 2026 free agent on the other in Colton McKivitz, was something of a surprise. Yet the Niners soon pivoted, grabbing two veteran tackles on the free-agent market not long after the draft.
