Elkhart-based Surf Internet received $1.17 million to expand broadband service in rural Indiana. Surf Internet received the funding during Round 13 of the Indiana Connectivity Program. The program aims to expand reliable high-speed broadband access to rural and underserved areas. The grant, combined with $5.8 million in private investment by Surf Internet, will enable fiber-optic expansion to 245 grant-identified addresses—and additional adjacent homes and businesses—across Indiana.

Merrillville-based White Lodging named Chris Anderson executive vice president and chief operating officer and Joe Pagone senior vice president of operations. In recognition of Earth Day, the Gary / Chicago International Airport showcased its efforts to provide a more sustainable operations model for its aviation offerings. The airport has made efforts in the last year to modernize its equipment. It purchased an electric ramp sweeper to replace its diesel engine sweeper. The airport also replaced older, diesel snow brooms with Tier 4 engines and emissions systems that reduces its carbon footprint.
