    Hitachi Global Air Power is launching a native plant restoration project at the company’s Michigan City headquarters. The restoration project is slated to begin this month. It will convert a portion of the campus from traditional turf grass into a native prairie habitat. The project will span five years and transform nearly seven acres of lawn into a prairie ecosystem. About 85% of the turf will be converted in the first year. The remaining 15% will be phased in over the following years.

    Elkhart-based Surf Internet received $1.17 million to expand broadband service in rural Indiana. Surf Internet received the funding during Round 13 of the Indiana Connectivity Program. The program aims to expand reliable high-speed broadband access to rural and underserved areas. The grant, combined with $5.8 million in private investment by Surf Internet, will enable fiber-optic expansion to 245 grant-identified addresses—and additional adjacent homes and businesses—across Indiana.

March 2025 enplanements – an industry metric indicating the number of people boarding an airplane from a specific airport – increased 24.6% yearly from 40,612 to 50,602.  At the end of the first quarter, South Bend International Airport enplanements reached 134,624, a 27.7% increase over the first quarter of 2024.
