    Canterbury Cathedral has hosted a poignant memorial to the more than 500 people known to have lost their lives attempting to cross from Calais and Northern France to the UK. The official figure of 500 deaths reflects records since 1999, with the true number believed to be much higher due to missing persons and unrecorded cases. The Cathedral described it as a “tragic milestone” in the refugee crisis.

    The Anglican Archbishop of Jerusalem and the Middle East has described the situation in his dioceses as “terrifying”. The US has now intervened in the conflict, striking three Iranian nuclear sites. Archbishop Hosam was writing to his congregations in the wake of Israel’s attacks last week, emphasising the beatitude: “blessed are the peacemakers”. Iran, Israel, Cyprus and Syria fall under his diocese.  Naoum invited believers around the world to “intercede” on behalf of the Middle East.

    The metropolitan police have said they are launching a review,  after a police officer attempted to shut down a street preacher by saying that publicly declaring the gospel was “all wrong”. A video, taken outside King’s Cross Station in London, shows a member of the preaching group ‘Mad 4 Jesus’ being approached by an officer. “It’s so loud,” says the officer.

    The Bishop of Guildford has descended his Cathedral’s tower, in a daring community fundraiser. Right Revd Andrew Watson abseiled nearly 50 metres (160 feet). He was joined by staff, bell ringers and members of the local community. “I can’t pretend that the abseiling was anything other than terrifying,” Bishop Watson admitted.

    Tensions between Armenia’s government and the Armenian Apostolic Church have reached new heights, after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan publicly accused the Church’s spiritual leader, Catholicos Karekin II, of breaking his vow  of celibacy and fathering a child. The Prime Minister presented no evidence for the claims, but called for Catholicos Karekin’s resignation. "Your Grace, go fool around with your uncle's wife. What do you want from me?" said Pashinyan.
