MONTGOMERY – A first in Peyton Blackard’s storied golf career, but a late disappointment for he and Gibson Southern teammates. In Thursday’s Washington Regional on Montgomery’s Country Oaks Golf Club course, the son of Jason and Melanie Blackard became medalist. After shooting a five-under-par 34-33-67 for the 18 regulation holes, he won a three-man playoff on the second hole.

EVANSVILLE — Susan "Susie" Jane Petitjean, 82, of Evansville, died June 14, 2025, at River Pointe Health Campus in Evansville. She was born Sept. 4, 1942, in Evansville, to James and Mary "Ruth" (Brandle) Moore. She graduated from Reitz High School in 1961 and married Eugene Leo Petitjean Aug. 19, 1967. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 55 years Eugene Petitjean; sisters Betty and Virginia “Carol”. She is survived by extended family.

One animal-loving human wasn't there to join the celebration, but GCAS board member Sharon Werne said she's sure that the late Netah Roberts, who helped form the non-profit that provides animal control for the county, played some part in keeping the rain at bay for the celebration. Roberts passed away earlier this year, and Werne said special recognition is due for her efforts to support GCAS. "What a force of nature she was!" said Werne, detailing Roberts' fundraising accomplishments.

CARMI — Jaclyn Hoscheid, 42, Carmi, died June 14, 2025. A U.S. Navy veteran, she served as a Hospital Corpsman in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Patrick Hoscheid; children Connor and Bella; her mother, Cindy; siblings Karen, Amber and Paul. A memorial service will be planned at a later date by family.
