Princeton Councilman Jan Ballard, left, hugs his cousin, Sheena Gordon, at the Lincoln Park shelter house Friday, where Gordon stopped in to get lunch provided to those affected by Thursday's tornado. Gordon's property across the street from the park was hit by the tornado, but she said she wasn't home at the time. The tornado damaged several homes near the park and tore out several trees in the park area.

The City of Princeton set temporary dumpsters at East Pine and North Race Streets to help those affected by the Thursday afternoon tornado dispose of some of the debris. The city issued guidance, asking that tree debris from the storm be placed between the sidewalk and curb. No liquids, chemicals or tree limbs should be placed in the dumpsters.
FHS students earn honors in competition

Flora High School students competed at the annual Lake Land College Business and Computer Contest Thursday, April 10. Students took individual tests and then competed in a scavenger hunt. Adam Pietz placed third in Microsoft Word, Payton Scroggins placed third in General Business, and Quentin Black placed first in Microsoft Excel.

Richard Knopik

Richard Knopik, born in June 1926 near Fullerton, Nebraska, to Caroline and Frank Knopik, died Oct. 19, 2024 at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He served in the U.S. Army at the immediate post WWII era, discharged as a sergeant in 1947. He joined the Navy in March 1948, serving as a flight engineer and tail gunner and later as a flight instructor until his retirement in 1965.

OWENSVILLE — Karen Teel Stoll, 87, of Owensville, died April 13, 2025, at home. She was born Oct. 7, 1937, to C. Warren "Abie" and Doris (Smith) Thompson. She married Jon Teel in 1956. He preceded her in death in 2005. She married Joe Stoll in 2012. She was a registered nurse, and farmed with her first husband, Jon. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Owensville and later became a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt.
