Potts achieves Franklin president's list

FRANKLIN – Franklin College has announced the president’s list for the spring 2025 semester. Students named to the president’s list have achieved academic distinction by earning a perfect 4.0 grade point average while completing a minimum of 12 credit hours during a regular semester. Kendall Potts, a senior, from Haubstadt, achieved the president's list.

CARMI — Stella Elizabeth (Groves) Karns, 91, of Carmi, died Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Wabash Senior Living in Carmi. She was born in Marshall Oct. 16, 1933, to James Groves and Eunice (Johnson) Groves. She married James Edward (Eddie) Karns March 1, 1953. She spent most of her life in the Carmi area, working at Carmi Ainsbrook Factory, Carmi Queens Grill and Ball-Matsel Drugs.

The decision to shift the publication date is an effort to assure more timely delivery via the U.S. Postal Service, said Publisher Courtney Shots. There is no change to the delivery date for the Tuesday edition of The Clarion. News and advertising deadlines remain the same.

MOUNT CARMEL — Beverly K. Rayborn, 67, of Mount Carmel, died Saturday, June 21, 2025 at home. She was born Nov. 16, 1957 in Carmi, the daughter of Charles Wesley and Charlene (Rush) James. She married Benton Allen Rayborn in 1985. Surviving are her husband; daughter, Lindsay Haynes; seven grandchildren; siblings Donnie James, Kathy Holloman, Cerissa Waddington, and Charlotte McGarrh. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bobby Gale Rayborn; a grandson; and sister, Jacqueline James.
Lepper sentenced to 18 years in prison

PRINCETON — Gibson Superior Court Robert Krieg has approved a plea agreement for a Patoka man that imposes two nine-year prison sentences to be served consecutively. Jordan Lepper of Patoka was initially charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and recklessness with a deadly weapon in connection with a drive-by shooting incident May 29, 2024 on Princeton's east side.

CLAREMONT — Carolyn Murphy, 89, of Claremont, died Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. She was born May 27, 1936 in Lawrence County, to Samuel and Bessie (Shank) Palmer. She married Robert "Bob" Neal Murphy on Sept. 2, 1955 in Chauncey, and he preceded her in death Feb. 16, 2018. She worked as a bookkeeper, and eventually opened her own tax service office at home.

PATOKA â Joseph Edward Hedge, Sr., 90, of Patoka, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at his home in Patoka. He was born March 22, 1935 in Patoka, to Emery Everett Hedge and Lillie Mae (Hale) Hedge. Joe graduated from Patoka High School, then proudly joined the U.S. Army. While he was in the Army, he met Beverly Minnis and true love bloomed and they married March 1, 1959. Joe worked 34 years as a train inspector and carman for what is now known as CSX Railroad.
