Quadrant Online

Quadrant is a literary and cultural journal based in Australia. It offers reviews of various literary works and features essays on a range of subjects including politics, history, universities, and the arts. Additionally, it publishes poetry and short stories. This magazine was established in Sydney in 1956 by Richard Krygier, a Polish-Jewish refugee who had a background in social-democratic politics in Europe, along with James McAuley, a Catholic poet known for his involvement in the anti-modernist Ern Malley hoax. The journal was initiated by the Australian Committee for Cultural Freedom, which was the Australian branch of the Congress for Cultural Freedom—an anti-communist advocacy organization that received funding from the CIA.
