Queens Journal
The Queen’s Journal is a newspaper that is entirely managed by students at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Established in 1873, it has been consistently publishing for over a century. We produce a weekly print edition and share various online articles throughout the year. You can find our complete production schedule here. Our team consists of passionate volunteers and staff who handle writing, editing, designing, and photographing all of our material.

We cannot protect the planet without addressing gender inequality. Women and girls bear much of the brunt of the effects of climate change, intensifying existing gender disparities and posing unique threats to their wellbeing, economic security, and physical safety. Across the globe, women rely heavily on natural resources, but often lack adequate access and control over them. In many communities, they shoulder a disproportionate burden in securing essentials like food, water, and fuel.

Nine years ago, Mike Laughlin didn’t know if he was going to survive. Now, he shares his story. A product of the inaugural Kingston Canadian Film Festival (KCFF) Doc Factory cohort, You Were There For Me premieres on Mar. 2 at the Baby Grand Theatre. The documentary follows a Kingston firefighter, Mike Laughlin, as he reflects on his journey to becoming a captain, and how his struggles and experiences as an amputee have shaped him.

Sometimes it’s the imperfections that make a lasting impression. Playing to a sold-out hometown crowd on Jan. 24 at Broom Factory, Kasador is set to return to the stage for the new year. After productive studio time, Cam Wyatt, ArtSci ’15, Boris Baker, MSc ’18, Stephen Adubofuor and newest permanent addition, Thomas Draper are excited to debut the band’s newest song, “Cut It” at the single release show on Friday, supported by School House and Oakridge Ave.
