Free fishing event on tap at the river

Outdoor Recreation is presenting a free fishing day at the Carroll D. Hudson Recreation Area on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Coast Guard boater safety course is scheduled for later this month. Each year, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources designates a free fishing day for the public to fish recreationally in public waters without a fishing license. The event is part of National Fishing and Boating Week, which runs June 1-8.

Marius “Doc” Dockery took batting practice Thursday for the first time with this year’s Redstone softball team. “That’s called rusty,” he said afterward. Dockery, pitcher and co-coach with Ty Butler, is in his fifth year as Redstone preparesto play in the Community Softball Game on Thursday at Toyota Field in Madison. They will try to avenge last year’s 21-13 loss to the North Alabama Rockets, the community leaders’ team, which snapped Redstone’s three-year winning streak.

Kevin Meisler, the Army Materiel Command chief of staff, said a proclamation designating June 1-14 as the region’s Armed Forces Celebration symbolizes the community’s “unwavering support” to the military. One way to tell just how cool I am is to see the enjoyment I get from following the Merriam-Webster dictionary on Facebook. It’s been just over a year since the Associated Press’ stylebook, which governs a lot of the words we use in the Rocket, switched from Webster’s New World dictionary to Merriam-Webster. Fun fact, even though both share the name Webster, which refers to the work of lexicographer Noah Webster, the two dictionaries are not related.
Fox connects with community for health updates

Ten months after the Huntsville VA Clinic started offering primary care services at Fox Army Health Center for the growing veteran population, three teams are now operating at Fox. Three Patient Aligned Teams are “up and running” at Fox, with each team including a primary care provider, a registered nurse, a licensed practical nurse and a scheduling clerk, said Dr. Tricia Villanueva-Harris, the clinic medical director of the Huntsville VA Clinic.
