    Murray River Police have seized knives during a daylong operation in Albury. Operation Ares was a high-visibility police exercise whereby officers used handheld scanners – or electronic metal-detecting “wands” – to locate and seize knives in public places. Murray River Police District officers conducted a handheld scanning operation in Albury CBD between 10 am and 10 pm on Friday (30 May). As a result:Ninety-eight people were scanned. Four weapons and prohibited drugs were detected and seized.

    A Griffith man is facing a string of charges after he allegedly sparked a police pursuit while driving his ute, fled on foot and was found hiding under a bed in a house in Heath Crescent. At 11:12 am on Sunday (1 June), officers were patrolling Walla Avenue, Griffith, when they saw a silver Isuzu D-Max ute, whose driver covered his face when he noticed the police. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit was allegedly initiated when the ute failed to pull over.

    Wagga publicans have added the names of 11 people to their list of those who are barred from entering licensed premises across the town. The move came at a meeting at the Sportsmen’s Club Hotel last week. The Wagga Wagga Liquor Accord is a partnership between licensed venues, community members, local businesses, councils, police, and other community groups to address alcohol-related issues such as anti-social behaviour and violence.
