From the moment two guys in a huge truck delivered a white fiberglass cow to artist Gary Sweeney, he thought of little else but how to transform it into a work of art. "It really was the last thing I thought of at night and the first thing I thought of when I got up in the morning," said Sweeney, 73, who is known for playful, richly detailed works. His Canary Islands-themed creation is part of a roughly 70-head herd that makes up CowParade San Antonio.

The next step of the Spurs ongoing rebuild will be broadcast live tonight during the 2025 NBA Draft and area bars are expected to be packed with fans following along as the enjoy plenty of food and adult beverages. At the Friendly Spot on South Alamo, for example, two huge LED screens will be tuned into both ABC and ESPN, which will broadcast the first round of the draft beginning at 7 p.m. The second round begins at 7 p.m. Thursday on ESPN.

But look up wherever you are on the night of July 4 and you might see pyrotechnics blooming in the night sky, from Woodlawn Lake, downtown, the theme parks or private celebrations. The Fourth also evokes patriotic music and small-town parades. If that's the way you want to celebrate, you can head out of town in almost any direction and find a flag-waving festival.
