For nearly 50 years, The Rex Nelon Singers, who became known simply as The Nelons in 1985, were one of the groups that helped define the nexus between country and Gospel music, often referred to as Southern Gospel. The group has been nominated for three Grammy Awards and numerous Dove Awards throughout the legacy of the band that has seen generations of the Nelon Family take up the mantle of the family’s music. The group was inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame in 2016.

Well either it’s a good sign or a bad sign. But either way, one of the most iconic signs on Lower Broadway is coming down—at least temporarily—as the property that has housed the Ernest Tubb Record Shop for decades goes through renovations to (hopefully) reopen in all of its original glory, along with newer additions to make the lucrative piece of real estate sustainable into the future.

On the night of March 2nd into early March 3rd, 2020, a complex of ten tornadoes ripped through middle Tennessee, including right in the heart of East Nashville’s Five Points neighborhood and Woodland Street. 22 people were killed in the tornado breakout, including two individuals struck with flying debris in the Five Points: Michael Dolfini, 36, and his girlfriend, Albree Sexton, 33.
