The Peninsula News Review has been the go-to newspaper for the Saanich Peninsula since its inception in 1912. The very first edition was published on December 13, 1912, under the name Sidney Review, catering to the local community across the Peninsula. Initially an eight-page tabloid, the paper transitioned to a broadsheet format by 1919.

Residents of Brentwood Bay have a new reason to celebrate as Azure Pier Coastal Cafe officially opened its doors on Sunday, May 25, much to the delight of locals eager for a fresh culinary experience. The cafe, located at 899 Marchant Rd. in the space formerly occupied by Blues Bayou Cafe, promises a contemporary twist on cafe classics with shoreline views. Nick Filipchuk, a Brentwood Bay resident, was on his usual evening walk on Friday (May 23), when his curiosity brought him to the cafe.

With the Victoria Day long weekend just around the corner, BC Ferries says they are “summer ready.” The company anticipates carrying over 9 million passengers and nearly 4 million vehicles over the summer season, building upon last year's record-breaking numbers between May 15 and Sept. 2, 2024. “We’re operating in a more complex environment – aging ships, increased demand, and busy terminals all put pressure on the system,” said Stephen Jones, vice-president of engineering.

A massive warehouse fire in Oyster River Wednesday morning required the resources of five fire departments to help contain the situation. The emergency on Tsolum River Road was paged out shortly after 10 a.m. and was responded to by fire crews from Oyster River, Merville, Cumberland, Courtenay and Comox. Campbell River sent down crews to act as a stand-by crew in case other fire crews were needed in the area.

A German shepherd named Major excitedly walks around the outside of a boat at Cultus Lake, as handler Sgt. Denny Chrétien points at various spots along the way. Soon Major stops and sits and receives an enthusiastic "good boy!" from Chrétien. The canine successfully found an invasive species of freshwater mussel that was hidden on the boat.
