The City of Chilliwack's document-shredding fundraiser is back this spring. The Shred-A-Thon and Food Drive event is set for Saturday, June 7 in the parking lot at the Chilliwack Coliseum (45323 Hodgins Ave.) from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents can bring up to 10 boxes of documents (banker box size) to be shredded, and people are asked to bring donations of non-perishable food and/or cash for the Chilliwack Salvation Army food bank. This event is for residential shredding materials only.

A local family that builds homes in Chilliwack has purchased a 77-year-old former Ukrainian church, and is hoping to rent it out now that renovations are wrapping up. Back in January, the Gore Brothers bought St. Demetrius Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Victor Street in Chilliwack, a building that was in desperate need of repairs. It was a very spur-of-the-moment purchase.
