Homeowners are being urged to check the condition of their bathroom fans after fire damaged a mobile home in the 2100 block of Pemberton Place in Comox early April 25. According to Assistant Fire Chief Rick Shelton of Comox Fire Rescue, firefighters were called to the blaze shortly before 9 a.m. “Fire and smoke was showing from the rear of the structure through the roof, we were able to get here fairly quickly and get some water on it and knock it down,” Shelton says.

Two seniors are safe after fleeing from an early morning house fire on April 6 in Courtenay. According to Fire Chief Kurt MacDonald, the couple called for help shortly after 4:30 a.m. after discovering a fire in their home. ”They did phone 9-1-1 and say that the fire did start in the back area of the house and that it was fully involved as they were leaving,” MacDonald says. The elderly couple was able to escape without any injuries but was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

A fire which is believed to have started in a recreational vehicle has resulted in one home being extensively damaged as partial impact to a second. The blaze began shortly before 11 a.m. on April 2 in the 5800 block of Bates Road north of Courtenay. “There was a big explosion and then I looked out the window and the trailer was on fire and then the neighbour’s house was on fire” says Madison Hagarty who lives across from where the fire began.

A quick response by firefighters helped keep flames from spreading too far into a Comox residence early Feb 24. According to Capt. Pascal Lafrenière of Comox Fire Rescue, crews were called out to reports of a vehicle on fire spreading into a home in the 1500 block of Skeena Drive around 12:40 a.m. The homeowner and his cat were in the structure at the time of the blaze but both escaped without injury.
