Two seniors are safe after fleeing from an early morning house fire on April 6 in Courtenay. According to Fire Chief Kurt MacDonald, the couple called for help shortly after 4:30 a.m. after discovering a fire in their home. ”They did phone 9-1-1 and say that the fire did start in the back area of the house and that it was fully involved as they were leaving,” MacDonald says. The elderly couple was able to escape without any injuries but was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

A fire which is believed to have started in a recreational vehicle has resulted in one home being extensively damaged as partial impact to a second. The blaze began shortly before 11 a.m. on April 2 in the 5800 block of Bates Road north of Courtenay. “There was a big explosion and then I looked out the window and the trailer was on fire and then the neighbour’s house was on fire” says Madison Hagarty who lives across from where the fire began.

A quick response by firefighters helped keep flames from spreading too far into a Comox residence early Feb 24. According to Capt. Pascal Lafrenière of Comox Fire Rescue, crews were called out to reports of a vehicle on fire spreading into a home in the 1500 block of Skeena Drive around 12:40 a.m. The homeowner and his cat were in the structure at the time of the blaze but both escaped without injury.

Occupants of a Campbell River home managed to escape a house fire that destroyed much of their residence on the evening of Oct. 29. Campbell River Fire Chief Dan Verdun says his department received several 911 calls about the blaze shortly before 8 p.m. and arrived to find the home in flames in the Stories Beach area of South Island Highway and McGimpsey Road. ”When our crews arrived we did find this house fully involved, the flames were about 30 feet in the air” Verdun says.
