April 17, 2025 The Mehlville Board of Education approved and accepted the election of Ann Zimpfer and Serene Wilkinson, each to a three-year term on the Mehlville School District Board of Education, at its April 10 meeting. Before Zimpfer and Wilkinson took the oath of office, however, Scott Huegerich was recognized for serving as a board director for the past three years. The board highlighted Huegerich’s accomplishments over the past three years and each member said a few parting words.

After receiving requests from members of the community, the Mehlville Board of Education unanimously approved renaming Beasley Elementary School’s playground and field “The Mr. Mike playground and field” in honor of longtime custodian Mike Edwards. Edwards, known to students and staff as “Mr. Mike,” unexpectedly died in February. “Mr. Mike was not only a long-time resident of the Mehlville School District, but also a dedicated and beloved employee.

A number of elections – including fire, municipal andschool boards, as well as multiple local and county-wide propositions – were decided on April 8. Incumbent Chris Volz was defeated by Steve Davila for the open Affton Board of Directors seat by a vote of 55.6% to 44.4%. Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors incumbent Ed Ryan secured his fourth term, defeating challengers Fred Baumgarth and Steven Mossotti.

The Affton Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of the district’s third school resource officer (SRO) for the 2025-26 school year at its April 1 meeting. The new SRO position is yet to be filled, though the district has already begun working with the St. Louis County Police Department to begin the selection and placement process. The position is expected to be occupied by the start of next school year.

April 10, 2025 The March 19 Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors meeting had a packed agenda and an audience to match. “It’s seriously been like a decade since we’ve had so many people in the crowd. This is incredible. You can tell I’m not used to such excitement,” MFPD Board Chairman Aaron Hilmer said in reaction to the six Oakville High School students in attendance.
