A home in Kelowna has suffered significant damage after an early morning house fire. Around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, April 18, the Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) received calls of a structure fire in the 1000-block of Hickory Road. Upon arrival, crews saw visible flames coming out of the back of the building and smoke throughout the home. Crews used "several" hose lines to douse the fire and ventilated the smoke. According to KFD, the basement suite suffered the most damage.

A letter typed on B.C. legislative assembly stationery signed by Conservative Party MLA Anna Kindy and several other elected officials that backs a controversial federal election candidate has raised concerns about the ethical implications of sending out a partisan message from the legislature. The letter released on social media over the weekend has the signatures of Campbell River Mayor Kermit Dahl and city Couns. Ben Lanyon, Ron Kerr, and Doug Chapman.

The Okanagan Skaha School District is inviting proposals to lease three elementary school buildings. Because of changes to its structure, to address declining enrolment levels, the school board is closing Carmi Elementary School and Parkway Elementary School in Penticton, and Giant’s Head Elementary School in Summerland. The schools will close on June 30. The changes come as the school board is moving away from its elementary-middle-secondary model and going to an elementary-secondary model.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were called to the area around Mowat Road and found a small grey Nissan Sentra unoccupied.
