More than 400 vehicles filled the streets downtown Chilliwack on Sunday, for the 20th Annual Village Classic. This year's event included a special feature car, Kevin Mindel's custom-built, 1968 Mercury Cougar Fastback GT-P — nicknamed "Predator." There were 25 trophies handed out on stage near the end of the day, including one in honour of the late Chilliwack MLA Dan Coulter. Vehicles received a special dash plaque to commemorate the event.
Chilliwack-based SONiC Radio abruptly changes format overnight, again

Radio listeners in Chilliwack and Abbotsford who normally tune into SONiC may have thought they'd bumped the dial Thursday morning. On June 19, the station abruptly changed format, broadcasting as KISS Throwbacks, with Rick Campanelli as the morning host. They will now be playing "all the hits of the '90s and 2000s," according to a SONiC Radio Instagram post. The station broadcasts on 107.5 FM in Chilliwack, 92.5 FM in Abbotsford, and 104.9 FM in Vancouver.

Two Fraser Valley breweries can lift a glass in celebration this week, as winners of the Canadian Brewing Awards. Mountainview Brewing Co. in Hope won gold in the "Historic/Regional Beer" category for their Spruced Up gose beer. Field House Brewing Co. earned bronze for their Salted Black Porter, in the "Other Strong Beer" category. Field House first opened in Abbotsford in 2016 and expanded to downtown Chilliwack in 2020.

Chilliwack Chiefs' Barry Douglas wins BCHL marketing award for 3rd time

Barry Douglas of the Chilliwack Chiefs has been named BCHL's Marketer of the Year. The announcement was made at the league's AGM recently, with the award also going to Todd Miller of the Vernon Vipers due to a tied vote by the board. Douglas started with the Chiefs organization in the 1994-95 season as the team's colour commentator for broadcasts. Today, he is the team’s governor and vice-president of business operations.

A new chapter in Chilliwack youth soccer was celebrated last Wednesday night, at a special media event. A crowd of young players with Tzeachten Chilliwack United watched with excitement as their future jersey was unveiled. The youth soccer club will soon be sporting green and white, in large horizontal stripes, on game days. Their new jerseys and logo were met with cheers, smiles and a few questions.
Chillith Fair to showcase Chilliwack's women in music for 2nd year

Chillith Fair is back for a second time around, with an evening of all-female performances in the Vineyard Centre downtown Chilliwack. The all-ages show is once again presented by chillsounds, on May 30. The event was created last year, as a way to showcase local women artists, with a nod to Lilith Fair. That music festival was founded by Canadian musician Sarah McLachlan and others, celebrating women in music.
