A fire broke out at an apartment at Mary Street and Ontario Avenue in Chilliwack Tuesday night (May 6). Fire crews used ladders to access the fire in the sixth floor of the 11-storey building. Dozens of residents were receiving emergency service support on the sidewalks in the area, and there were residents who had suffered smoke inhalation. Residents throughout the building stood on their balconies, calling out information to first responders below.

The names of Indigenous people who have been murdered and gone missing in the Hope area were marched through the streets Monday morning. Their names were hand-written on posters and printed on t-shirts, in a procession of about 500 people. Most were wearing red clothes to honour Red Dress Day. Many also had red hands painted across their mouths, a symbol for the No More Stolen Sisters movement.

People in Chilliwack gathered Thursday evening to help in the search for a missing seven-year-old girl, and she still hadn't been found by Friday morning. Chilliwack RCMP put a call out at 10 p.m. Thursday night, asking for the public's help to find Lily Coursol, who was reported missing on May 1. Chilliwack Search and Rescue is on scene with a command unit, and crews from around the Fraser Valley were out until about 5 a.m., according to searchers on scene.
