Sun Mid South Coast
The Rising Sun Community Newspaper group was founded in 1986, starting with the North Coast publication. Shortly after, in 1989, the Mid South Coast edition was launched as a small A5 mini ads publication. It quickly evolved into a full-fledged newspaper. In 1993, the Chatsworth Rising Sun was introduced, initially as a monthly release, transitioning to a bi-weekly format in 1994. By 1995, it had successfully established itself as a weekly newspaper. In January 1997, the North Coast Rising Sun was sold, leading to the creation of the Phoenix Sun. The Merebank edition was launched in 1999, followed by the Overport paper in 2000. From an initial print run of 6,500, the group now prints an impressive total of 281,933 newspapers every week, reaching homes from Phoenix in the north to Ifafa in the south. In 2003, the group formed a partnership with Highway Mail Limited, part of the Caxton Newspaper Group. Together, they now circulate a combined total of 447,261 copies each week.
