Two lions were euthanised in Huntington in Bushbuckridge at about 05:00 on Sunday, April 20. They were part of the group that had been spotted in the area on April 13. According to the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency’s (MTPA) spokesperson, Simphiwe Shingube, the two loose lions were euthanised following a week-long joint operation with stakeholders, such as SANParks, trying to capture them or drive them back into the Kruger National Park.

One of the male lions that escaped from the Kruger National Park (KNP) was captured in Huntington in Bushbuckridge today April 17. The captured lion is being kept at one of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency’s (MTPA) facilities. According to MTPA’s spokesperson, Simphiwe Shingube, the male was with a female lion when it was spotted, however, she managed to escape in the KNP’s direction. The City of Mbombela (CoM) is currently busy with its Service Delivery Drive (SDD), attending to each ward on a two-week basis. With the recent rains, the officials who were working on issues in Mataffin, Rocky Drift and Msholozi (Ward 14), and eMbonisweni and Backdoor (Ward 38) have been disrupted. The drive was supposed to move to KaNyamazane this week, but it was postponed until next week while they finished some of the work that could not be completed.

The Power of 8000 (TPO8000) recently received a donation, a new Foton bakkie, from Westvaal Numbi Ford. TPO8000’s chairperson, Rhodes Abell, said this marks the fourth vehicle Westvaal has entrusted to the organisation, following two Ford Rangers and one Isuzu. Each bakkie, fully branded with TPO8000’s logo, is made available to the organisation on a six-month loan before being sold as a demo model.

Lowvelders' app encourages learners to love maths

In an effort to encourage learners to love mathematics, two Lowvelders, Dacod Magagula and Tao Boyle, created an app to assist learners from grades eight to 12. Magagula has a degree in computer science, while Boyle has a degree in economics. They both obtained their qualifications at the University of Cape Town. According to Magagula, the app has various levels of difficulty with questions for learners to answer.
