Talkhouse
Artists often share insights about their own creations, but they seldom discuss the work of their peers. That's where Talkhouse comes in. This platform features insightful contributions from talented artists across various genres and generations in music and film, who write about recent releases. What makes it special is that the artist being reviewed is invited to respond to the commentary, fostering a dialogue that might not happen otherwise. Readers of Talkhouse can witness this intriguing interaction firsthand and can also engage in the discussion through our moderated comments section.

Cassandra Jenkins is my guest on this episode of That’s How I Remember It. Cassandra is an amazing and inspiring songwriter and musician. She’s also a friend that I’ve made music with. We talked about growing up in a musical household, steel drums, “I Want to Dance With Somebody,” saving voicemails, our 2019 tour, her decision to re-record her most recent album, working in a flower shop, and so much more. Cassandra is super insightful, and I was so happy to finally have her on the podcast.

One-on-one pod today, Chris is in New York, and Jason was in Lake Tahoe. We chat about half-marathon nipple chafing, total body deodorant, Fox News reply guys, Gen Z doesn’t want to start a bar tab, getting good at Googling, four-named graphic designers, the religious undertones of matcha raves in Dubai, how Timmy got Kylie out to Indiana on a Saturday night, Taylor reheated her masters just in time for her first child, and what is an audiobook if not a very long podcast?

This week on the show, something different: an extra-sized Transmission that’s been locked in the vault for years, a two-hour talk with singer/songwriter Damien Jurado. Way back in 2022, host Jason P. Woodbury sat down with Jurado in the recording studio at Gold-Diggers in Los Angeles for a career spanning conversation, exploring the stories behind his oracular visions, his history, and his collaborators, including the late Richard Swift.

For me, the ideal guest on Nobody’s Ever Asked Me That is someone who is not just brilliant, accomplished and interesting, but who also has that rare mix of both introspectiveness and openness. The guest on today’s episode, the actor Lili Taylor, is arguably a perfect embodiment of all those traits. I really love watching Lili Taylor in kinda anything, as she’s such a distinctive, original presence.

When I talk about my directorial debut, Egghead & Twinkie, people often assume that the main character, Twinkie, must be based on myself. After all, we’re both queer mixed-Asian girls with a weakness for Doc Martens. She must be my self-insert character, and the story of her coming out of the closet must be based on my own experience. Right? Well, the answer is wrong … mostly. Egghead & Twinkie is a fictional story, and Twinkie is her own person.
