Margaritaville coming to Orange Beach—city breaks ground on new resort | The Bama Buzz

Last year, the Wharf at Orange Beach announced it would be home to the first Margaritaville resort in Alabama. Wednesday, the city took the next step to making that a reality. Officials broke ground on the new resort May 14, starting an approximately four-year construction project across Portage Creek from The Wharf Amphitheater. The 83-acre waterfront property is expected to open by 2027 with the full project being completed by 2029.

Weekend storms bring record rainfall to Tuscaloosa

It was a very wet weekend across Alabama as rain continues to be the story of this year’s spring season. According to the National Weather Service, Tuscaloosa saw historic rainfall Saturday as 3.7 inches of precipitation were recorded at the Tuscaloosa Airport. That total set a new record for the city, breaking a 49-year-old record by more than half an inch. Nearly three inches of rain fell between noon and 6PM on Saturday, May 10.

Montgomery’s Old Cloverdale District is home to several locally owned restaurants + shops along with art galleries, an independent arts cinema and a community theater. Juneteenth has long been celebrated in the United States as a way to commemorate the end of slavery in the country. Now, the day will be considered an official state holiday for the first in Alabama’s history. Gov. Kay Ivey signed a bill into law this week, following in the footsteps of former President Joe Biden who signed a law to make the day a federal holiday in 2021.
