    A fire broke out at the Five 10 Flats on East Third Street. Five fire trucks and multiple police cars are currently at the scene. Emergency vehicle sirens were first heard around 1:15 p.m. By 1:33 p.m. the fire trucks started to hose off the building. A fifth fire truck arrived at the scene at 1:52 p.m.Police are blocking off the South Bethlehem Greenway on Pierce Street. Non-emergency dispatch and police officers at the scene declined to comment at this time.

    Growing up, I experienced what, at the time, felt like an unconventional childhood. My parents divorced when I was 7 amid the 2008 financial crisis, when my dad lost his job. Soon after, he moved across the country to find work that paid enough to keep our house located in an affluent area of Connecticut. For seven years, my dad hopped around to various places — from Montana to Oregon to Pennsylvania. While some jobs were closer than others, it always felt like he was a world away.

    As a private institution — much like other private organizations and corporations — Lehigh is not strictly bound by First Amendment rights. Still, in the Policy of Freedom of Thought, Inquiry and Expression, and Dissent by Students, the institution makes statements supporting students’ rights to express themselves as long as certain parameters are followed.

    A Hawkwatch Alert was released stating a fire alarm in the Clayton University Center at Packard Hall was activated at 12:17 p.m. today. The alert instructed everyone in the building to “evacuate quickly and calmly.” A following “all clear” alert was sent at 12:25 p.m. According to a member of The Brown and White who was in the UC at the time, no alarm went off, but officers from the Lehigh University Police Department and Bethlehem Fire Department were present.
