The Call & Times
The Evening Call Publishing Company was established by Samuel E. Hudson and Andrew J. McConnell, marking the beginning of The Call. The newspaper's first issue was released on the afternoon of May 31, 1892, and every single copy sold out. In its inaugural editorial, the publication expressed confidence that the residents of Woonsocket would support a newspaper focused on their local and business needs rather than viewing it as a mere experiment. Today, The Call continues to proudly serve the Blackstone Valley region, covering areas in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. In Rhode Island, we cater to the towns of Woonsocket, North Smithfield, Cumberland, Lincoln, Burrillville, and Glocester. In Massachusetts, our coverage extends to Blackstone, Millville, Bellingham, Uxbridge, and Franklin.

PROVIDENCE – The word “big” comes up a lot when talking with actor Devon Hadsell about the musical of “Some Like It Hot,” coming to the Providence Performing Arts Center this month. Big, as in big song and dance numbers, Big Band jazz, big kick line – and even a bigger role for her character than in the 1959 comedy film of the same title, which won six Academy Awards.
