The Houma Courier is a daily newspaper based in Houma, Louisiana, serving the Terrebonne Parish area. Previously owned by Halifax Media Group, it changed hands in 2015 when GateHouse Media purchased Halifax. The paper is often just called The Courier.

According to Terrebonne Parish Utilities Director Ernest Brown a roughly 30-year-old cable failed Tuesday, May 27, in the city. The power surges took place between 6:48 and 8:30 p.m. The cable was located near Payne Street and fed the Sherwood community, Terrebonne Parish Communications Director Robbie Lee said. “It was due to a bad cable, a bad cable that failed,” Brown said.
