The Daily Beacon is the student-run newspaper for the University of Tennessee Knoxville and the local area. It operates independently and is created, written, and managed entirely by students. The newspaper is published from Monday to Friday during the fall and spring semesters, and it comes out once a week in the summer. Additionally, fresh content is available every day on our website, www.utdailybeacon.com. The Daily Beacon is free for readers and primarily funded through advertising.

SMU guard Nya Robertson transfers to Lady Vols basketball

Nya Robertson has transferred to Lady Vols basketball, per an announcement on Instagram. Robertson joins Tennessee with one year of eligibility remaining. The 5-foot-7 guard played last season at SMU and played the first two seasons of her career at George Washington. Robertson played in 27 of SMU's 30 games last season, starting 25 contests. She averaged 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists with the Mustangs. She was named an all-ACC second-team selection.

Tennessee softball finished its weekend in Austin with a 4-1 win over Texas. Karen Weekly and the No. 7 Lady Vols (34-9, 9-6 SEC) win the series over the No. 1 Longhorns (39-5, 11-4). After Saturday's win, Sunday's victory is the second win over No. 1 for Tennessee since 2017. Karlyn Pickens threw all seven innings for the Lady Vols, letting up six hits and one run. She struck out 10 and walked one Texas batter.

Karen Weekly and the No. 7 Lady Vols (33-9, 8-6 SEC) have won their first game over a No. 1 team since 2017 by defeating the top-ranked Longhorns (39-4, 11-3). The Lady Vols have not beaten a No. 1 team on the road since 2012 when they beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Tennessee is the first team to beat Texas at McCombs Field this season. Lady Vols golf finished tied for fourth in the Tennessee Spring Challenge, held Monday at Fox Den Country Club. Tennessee finished a combined 23 shots over par across the 36-hole event. The No. 31 Lady Vols finished 22 shots behind Western Kentucky, who won the event at +1. Tennessee was also beaten by No. 18 Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee State. Monday’s performance was a step back after finishing fourth in much tougher fields at Texas and Clemson during the last two tournaments.
