The felling, on Slee Gill in Richmond, which took place on May 27, was undertaken on ash trees exhibiting signs of ash dieback, a highly destructive fungal disease affecting ash populations across the UK, according to the council. During the tree felling, 11 ash trees, three elm trees and an elder tree were cut down by contractors on the Richmond site. Officers from North Yorkshire Police were called during the felling.
