The Root

The Root is an online magazine that focuses on African-American culture, available in English. It was founded on January 28, 2008, by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Donald E. Graham, and was part of Graham Holdings Company through its digital division, The Slate Group. The publication has gained a substantial following, with over 210,000 Twitter followers, and features a segment called The Chatterati that highlights discussions from Black Twitter. In 2015, The Root was acquired by Univision Communications from Graham Holdings.
