    Staff Reports JACKSONVILLE – Curry’s Ambrey Taylor and Hewitt-Trussville’s Steele Hall won the state’s biggest high school baseball and softball awards Sunday, while Fruitdale’s Sid Hobbs was applauded for his fight vs. cancer. Hall was named Mr. Baseball, Taylor won Miss Softball, and Hobbs was honored with this year’s Jimmy Smothers Courage Award by the Alabama Sports Writers Association at its annual convention.

After winning state titles in volleyball and basketball, the softball team capped off the year with a third-place finish at the Class 1A state softball tournament in Oxford at Choccolocco Park on May 15.

But that doesn’t mean basketball isn’t in his blood just like football is. Knapp just wrapped his first official week of double duty, coaching both football and boys basketball at Gaylesville. He recently took over the boys basketball duties from Kolby Brannon, who is now the head baseball coach at Weaver.
