    The AHSAA HUNTSVILLE – The Collinsville Panthers won their second Class 1A-3A state soccer title in school history and their first since 2013 with a 5-2 victory over Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday at Huntsville’s John Hunt Park. Five different players scored goals for Collinsville (22-3-1). Class 1A-3A state championship game Most Valuable Player Jefferson Acevedo scored the opening goal at the 20:08 mark, giving the Coach Jeff Stanley’s Panthers a 1-0 lead.

That certainly proved to be true for the Spring Garden Lady Panthers on Thursday in their East Softball Regional game at Sand Mountain Park against top-ranked Ider. Senior catcher Maggie Jarrett was involved in two of the biggest defensive plays in the game, which helped ninth-ranked Spring Garden preserve its lead.

    The AHSAA HUNTSVILLE – Cherokee County eighth grade goalie Cali Martin made 11 saves, but top-ranked St. John Paul II had 20 shots on goal in a 9-0 decision in the Class 4A girls state soccer semifinals at John Hunt Park on Wednesday. Sophomore Lauren Altman and senior Ella Cazzavillan both had hat tricks for the Falcons (18-1-2). Alexandra Jodon opened the scoring with a goal just 11 minutes into the contest. Jessi O’Brien followed three minutes later for a 2-0 Falcon lead.

    The AHSAA HUNTSVILLE – Collinsville senior midfielder Aaron Herrera broke open a defensive battle with Susan Moore on Wednesday afternoon. He scored two goals in just over 10 minutes late in the second half, and the Panthers went on to win 4-1 in the AHSAA Class 1A-3A boys soccer semifinals at John Hunt Park. The victory sends Collinsville (21-3-1) into Friday’s state finals at 11:30 a.m., to face Tuscaloosa Academy (21-5). The Knights downed Providence Christian 5-3 in the other semifinal.

    Staff Reports ALBERTVILLE – Olivia Law went 2-for-3 with a home run. She scored three runs and had two RBIs in leading the Spring Garden Lady Panthers to a 5-1 softball win over Skyline in the Class 1A East Regional at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park on Wednesday. Layla Ingram and Maggie Jarrett both went 2-for-4. Jarrett scored a run and Ingram drove in two. Rylie Ham tripled and drove in a run. Lilly McCain walked and scored a run. Helena Ingram drew a walk.
