An arson attack and knife threats have landed a Swindon man a prison sentence. Drug addict Craig Day set fire to the carpet of a hostel in Caufield Road, Gorse Hill, in a row over his missing cocaine on 24 November last year. Swindon Crown Court heard that the 36-year-old poured lighter fluid on the floor to start the flames, and continued pouring it on to fuel the blaze.

The 33-year-old is currently being questioned in custody, where she’s been held on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. Immigration enforcement officers and police officers carried out checks on employees there. While most staff were working legally, eight people were arrested for immigration offences.

A man is in a serious condition after a ‘fall’ from an A419 bridge in Swindon. Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty in the middle of the road on White Hart Roundabout at around 8pm on Wednesday (7 May). Members of the public stopped to help the man, who sustained serious injuries and significant blood loss after falling from the bridge above. Police officers and paramedics provided urgent care, before he was conveyed to the Major Trauma Centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

A man and his dog have been rescued as a blaze broke out in a Swindon flat. Emergency services responded to reports of a property fire in Tudor Walk, Walcot, at around 8.40am on Tuesday morning (6 May). Three fire engines – from Swindon, Westlea and Stratton stations – attended the scene alongside several police officers. Firefighters forced entry into the building and then rescued a man and his dog. The man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital for further care.

An air ambulance has been scrambled after a car ploughed into a Costa Coffee. Emergency services are currently responding to the serious road traffic collision in Burford Road, Carterton, in Oxfordshire. It’s understood the incident happened at around 2.15pm today (Wednesday). A dark-coloured Ford Kuga crashed through the front window of Costa. At least one person was injured, with a Hazardous Area Response Team sent to the scene alongside Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
