Windsor, Ascot & Eton Express

The Windsor and Eton Express was established on August 1, 1812, by Charles Knight Snr and his son, Charles Knight Jnr. Charles Knight Snr, a local bookseller and printer, was responsible for editing and printing the newspaper from his location on Church Street in Windsor. Following the passing of Charles Knight Snr, the newspaper was taken over by his son. Charles Knight Jnr was concerned about the newspaper's price, which started at six-and-a-half pence and increased to seven pence in September 1815 due to high stamp duties. He advocated for affordable press access, as initially, newspapers were primarily subscribed to by the wealthy class before stamp duty was eliminated in 1855.
