But the Bronson Viking baseball and softball teams made the long road trip to Maple Valley and came away with three victories. Baseball: Bronson 1, Maple Valley 0Carson Stevens threw a one-hit shutout with three walks and 10 strikeouts as Bronson blanked defending Big 8 champion Maple Valley 1-0 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader.

BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater traveled to the Binder Park Golf Course on Monday to play in the first Interstate 8 Jamboree of the season. The Cardinals finished in fifth place with a team score of 370; Harper Creek won with a team score of 313. Sophomore Dracyn Foster led Coldwater with a round of 78, which was good for fourth place individually. Joseph Searls shot a 99, Colten Calhoun had a 103, Braydon Wilkins shot a 105, and Cooper Otto finished with a 109.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Senior Elli Foley was voted by her teammates Most Valuable Player for the Coldwater Cardinal girls basketball team. The recognition came during the annual team banquet held Sunday afternoon at the Lakeland Elementary cafeteria. In other awards voted on by team members, sophomore Paisley Harvey was named Most Improved Player and also received the Coach’s Award, while junior Danika Cox won the Leadership Award and was named Most Sportsmanlike.

UNDATED (WTVB) – Saturday was a busy day on baseball diamonds throughout the area, as Coldwater, Quincy, and Union City each saw action. Coldwater at Pat Lowe Memorial InvitationalCOLDWATER, MI – Coldwater went 1-2 at its own Pat Lowe Memorial Invitational, losing to Mason 6-3 and to Three Rivers 14-5. QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Track teams from Bronson, Coldwater, and Union City traveled to Quincy High School Saturday for the annual Branch County Invitational. No team score was kept, and no medals were awarded, but Coldwater dominated the meet, winning 12 of the 17 boys events and 11 of the 17 girls events.

Bronson 11, Reading 1 (6 innings); Bronson 23, Reading 7 (4 innings)The Vikings improved to 3-0 overall with a pair of mercy-shortened victories against visiting Reading, 11-1 and 23-7. In the opener, winning pitcher Carson Stevens allowed only one hit and struck out 11 Ranger batters.

UNDATED (WTVB) – The weather was warm and dry enough Friday for the Bronson and Quincy to finally play their Big 8 softball doubleheaders that were rescheduled from Tuesday. The Vikings and Orioles swept their opposition. Bronson 15, Reading 0 (3 innings); Bronson 23, Reading 3 (3 innings)At Bronson, the Vikings improved to 2-0 in the Big 8 and 2-1 overall with a pair of 3-inning victories, 15-0 and 23-3. Ashlynn Harris threw a no-hitter in the opener with one walk and nine strikeouts.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater welcomed 23 teams Friday for the season-opening Cardinal Invitational at the Coldwater Golf Course . In cold and blustery conditions, Coldwater came in 11th place with a team score of 349, while Hillsdale Academy was 14th with a 353 and Quincy came in 23rd place with a team score of 432. Jackson Lumen Christi won the event with a round of 310, followed closely by Marshall at 313.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals fell to 2-3 on the season after dropping a 2-1 decision to Jackson. Coldwater led 1-0 at halftime thanks to a Brisny Lopez goal, assisted by Samantha Bernard. Jayla Estelle scored both Viking goals in the second half, including the game winner with 20 seconds left. The Cardinals return to action Monday night at Sturgis. QUINCY, MI – Quincy had a three-game winning streak snapped as they lost to visiting Adrian Lenawee Christian 3-2.
Quincy boys track team wins Clinton Invite, Oriole girls third

DUNDEE, MI (WTVB) – Quincy’s track and field teams ran at the Clinton Redwolves Invitational Saturday at Dundee High School. The Oriole boys won their meet with 97 points, 16.5 points ahead of second place Clinton. The Oriole girls finished third with 69.25 points, 6.5 points behind second place Dundee; Blissfield won with a total of 111.25 points. The Quincy boys had three event winners: Clayton Benson in the 110m hurdles, Noah Rufenacht in the high jump, and Corey Turner in the pole vault.
