While the station's license is held by Milwaukee Public Schools, it is run and programmed by an independent organization that shares the same name. Additionally, WYMS broadcasts weekly school board meetings on its airwaves, a requirement of the lease agreement between Milwaukee Public Schools and Radio Milwaukee.
