Buckeye Boys State, which was held from June 8-15, provides local students with an education on the duties, rights, privileges and responsibilities of being good citizens. The event exposes them to fundamental democratic principles in local, county and state government, which in turn helps prepare them to become good leaders.

But on July 19th, they will play host to a much deeper purpose: supporting the Greene County Suicide Prevention Coalition (GCSPC) Veteran Subcommittee. The ride will begin at the Fairgrounds Recreation Center with flexible start times between 8-9 a.m., allowing cyclists to ease into the event at their own pace.

WRIGHT- PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Drivers who use Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s Gate 19B, located off National Road, should be aware of upcoming changes due to a construction project. Starting Monday, access to Gate 19B will be limited through September 29. The gate will be closed to all vehicles leaving the base during the entire construction period. To help ease traffic in the mornings, Gate 19B will be open for vehicles entering the base from 6-9 a.m. from Monday through Friday.

XENIA — The Greene County Department of Job and Family Services wore purple on Monday in recognition of Elder Abuse Awareness Month. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which was on Sunday, helps raise awareness of the issues related to the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older Ohioans. The agency investigates more than 250 referrals each year. Anyone can report elder abuse by calling 1-855-OHIO-APS (1-855-644-6277).
