Submitted by Vermon DillonXENIA — Ja’mari Scott recently represented Xenia High School by attending the Buckeye Boys State event held at Miami University. Buckeye Boys State, which was held from June 8-15, provides local students with an education on the duties, rights, privileges and responsibilities of being good citizens. The event exposes them to fundamental democratic principles in local, county and state government, which in turn helps prepare them to become good leaders.

FAIRBORN — Each year the Fairborn Art Association (FAA) and the Fairborn Lions Club co-sponsor the annual Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival. It will be held at Community Park, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on August 16, as well as 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on August 17. This is the 43rd year for the popular festival. Two people are selected by the Lions Club as king and queen and were crowned in the June FAA meeting.

XENIA — On any given day, the trails of Greene County provide a scenic escape for cyclists and nature lovers alike. But on July 19th, they will play host to a much deeper purpose: supporting the Greene County Suicide Prevention Coalition (GCSPC) Veteran Subcommittee. The ride will begin at the Fairgrounds Recreation Center with flexible start times between 8-9 a.m., allowing cyclists to ease into the event at their own pace.
