YELLOW SPRINGS — Dr. Terri L. Holden has announced her retirement as Yellow Springs superintendent. Holden, who has 35 years in education — will step down effective June 1, 2026. Xenia native Megan Winston will assume the role of superintendent Aug. 1, 2026, the district said. Holden has been a steadfast champion of innovation, equity, and deeper learning, according to district officials.

DAYTON — After singing the Star Spangled Banner at the state basketball tournament a few times, one would assume Bri Vermillion would have zero nerves before performing it this year. Think again. “It was a lot less nerve-racking last year,” the 17-year-old Bellbrook High School student said. “This year I had a little bit of pressure on me.”It’s understandable given that she was asked to sing before the Alter-Bellevue girls Division-IV championship at the University of Dayton Arena on Friday.

YELLOW SPRINGS — A former Yellow Springs physician accused of sexually assaulting patients accepted a plea deal and will serve no jail time. Donald A. Gronbeck pled no contest to two bills of information, one charge of gross patient neglect and attempted patient abuse, and another with 12 counts of gross patient neglect.

XENIA — A Beavercreek insurance agent facing more than three dozen charges took a plea deal in Greene County Common Pleas Court earlier this month. Beverly Kirk, 66, pleaded guilty to two counts of grand theft and one count of false representation in the sale of a security — all felonies — court records show. She was charged in 2024 on 36 counts of securities fraud, unlicensed securities activity, theft, theft from a person in a protected class, and securing writings by deception.

FAIRBORN — Amaya Staton made sure the Wright State women’s basketball team rebounded from its two-game losing streak to end the regular season. Literally. The 6-foot-1 graduate student grabbed a career-high and Wright State single-game record 27 rebounds in the Raiders’ 73-58 win over Youngstown State in a first-round Horizon League tournament game at the Nutter Center Tuesday.
