On display were a Zetros 2036 A 4×4, Zetros 3351 AS 6×6, Arocs 4042 AS 6×6 heavy-duty tractor, and an FGA chassis. Mercedes-Benz has a regional service and distribution centre in Dubai to service numerous customers throughout the Middle East.

Saab has stolen a march on its opposition by launching a new phased-array radar for coastal surveillance. Such land-based radars are typically rotating types, but phased-array technology brings many advantages. Saab’s new system is called the Coast Control Radar, and it was unveiled at IDEX 2025, held in Abu Dhabi from 17-21 February. This phased-array, software-defined radar was developed completely by Saab UAE, located in Tawazun Industrial Park in Abu Dhabi.

It is a brand new course on Hudayriat Island that awaits the athletes, with a 300m swim transitioning to a 7km bike over two laps and wrapping up in a frantic 2-lap, 2km run. It had been a long period of acclimatization in the UAE leading up to the race, and Hayden Wilde was able to banish mixed memories of WTCS Abu Dhabi to take a scintillating sprint finish over Australia’s Matt Hauser. Wilde had to claw back 30 seconds out of the water and he did so in style, reeling in the leaders and then even skewering the field late on in a three-man breakaway that didn’t quite stick.

The first racing of 2025 is coming in hot, and all the signs are for an absolute firecracker of a men’s sprint-distance contest on the all new Hudayriat island course on 15 February. There’s always plenty of sub-plots and form-testing as the athletes emerge from the off-season, but one thing is for sure: a win in the first of this year’s 7-stop WTCS Series races would be a massive statement of intent for whoever can seize it with both hands next month.
