Spotty showers will linger into the afternoon on Monday, then we'll get a brief break before more rain arrives later in the week. Breezy northwest winds will help make Monday the coolest day of the week, with highs only in the mid to upper 60s. The recent unsettled pattern will finally break on Tuesday, promoting more sunshine and a warming forecast as highs climb into the low 80s. Wednesday may bring more isolated showers as a front develops nearby.

Sunday will start off sunny but end rainy and windy. The wind will pull down wildfire smoke from the northwest, placing Minnesota under an air quality alert until 11 p.m. Overnight showers give way to sunshine, but more clouds and spotty showers will drop in Sunday evening. Behind Sunday morning's cold front, expect temps to be a little cooler, but still comfy in the low 70s. Winds will be blustery this afternoon with gusts up to 30 miles per hour.

Winds from the northwest will pull wildfire smoke back into Minnesota skies over the weekend, as well a chance for rain Saturday afternoon. Smoke will hang around until Monday, impacting the air quality. Another wave of upper-level energy will swing by on Saturday, creating a chance for pop-up showers and storms throughout the afternoon. A chance for a thin line of rain arrives overnight Saturday with a quick-moving cold front.

Why is forecasting wildfire smoke so difficult? Wednesday's air quality made being outside a lot better across the region after the recent smoky stretch. Skies were much more clear, and healthy, compared to Tuesday. For days, wildfire smoke has filled the skies over the Twin Cities, and the entire state. But tracking how that smoke will move from Canada, or when it's going to cause problems at the surface, isn't easy.

Sunday will be another warm and hazy day in Minnesota, with air quality alerts still in effect statewide until 6 p.m. Monday due to the threat of more low-level wildfire smoke. The smoke will fluctuate in altitude, allowing for periods of reprieve, however the haze will likely persist into Monday. Temperatures climb into the mid 80s on Sunday and low 90s on Monday, which will likely be the hottest day of the season to date, challenging daily record highs.
