The New York State Public High School Athletic Association record for career wins by a baseball coach, previously held by Fort Plain’s Craig Phillips, has been eclipsed. Dennis “Dennie” Miles recorded his 807th career victory on Monday when his Genesee Valley/Belfast team defeated Eldred 5-1 in a game played at Macombs Dam Park in the Bronx – the site of the former Yankee stadium. That allowed him to vault past Phillips, who won 806 games while leading the Hilltoppers from 1975 to 2021.

University at Albany men’s basketball has landed a transfer commitment from another guard with New York City roots. Brooklyn native Nasir Muhammad, who played the last two seasons at Northern Illinois of the Mid-American Conference, has committed to transfer to the Great Danes for the 2025-26 season. The 6-foot-2 guard announced his commitment Wednesday on his Instagram page.

New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys’ cross country coordinator Charles “Chuck” Wiltse, one of the longest-tenured sport coordinators in the association’s history, died early this month. He was 83. A successful high school coach for more than two decades at Section III’s Baldwinsville who went on to become an administrator at several Central New York school districts, Wiltse had served as NYSPHSAA’s boys’ cross country coordinator since 1994.

Calvin Mar, a Long Island high school senior who is set to study psychology at UAlbany starting next school year, was stunned this past Friday when Towns presented him with a $60,000 Inspire Scholarship through MSG’s Garden of Dreams Foundation.
