INDIAN SHORES, Fla — On Friday, the public finally heard from the Army Corps of Engineers on where Pinellas County’s beach renourishment projects stand. Following Hurricane Idalia—severely eroded beaches lost even more sand— leaving many accesses closed. Beach renourishment projects have been on pause in Pinellas County because of perpetual property easements. These easements must be signed by beachfront homeowners in areas zoned for renourishment in Sand Key, Long Key and Treasure Island.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The storm surge from Hurricane Idalia has homeowners across coastal communities now gutting their homes. In St. Petersburg, the first-day debris pick-up began on Thursday.   It may take some homeowners extra time to bring all of their debris to the curb, as many are waiting for inspections and assessments to be completed by FEMA or insurance adjusters.

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. — In the coastal communities north of Tampa Bay, many are still working to empty their homes out, trashing all of the items ruined by Hurricane Idalia flood waters. In Citrus County, homes and businesses saw several feet of flooding. Driving through the city of Crystal River, it might not look like a hurricane swept through. But as city officials are pointing out, it's because the water and the flooding caused a lot of damage more so than the wind.

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — The Hernando County Emergency Operations Center has issued voluntary evacuations for parts of the county considering the impacts from Idalia. That includes areas west of U.S. Highway 19, evacuation Zones A, B, and C, all people living in coastal low-lying areas and all manufactured homes in the county. Along with the concerns of wind, heavy rain, and flooding, the timing of this storm has county officials concerned.
